Policy & Priorities

Strong leadership drives strong growth

Since joining Council last year, I’ve worked to bring stability, accountability, and a clear vision for Chestermere’s future. We’re building momentum — investing in infrastructure, supporting our businesses, and creating opportunities that keep our city moving forward. Chestermere is on the right track, and I’m committed to keeping it that way.

Education – Schools Are a Top Priority

Chestermere’s families deserve access to high-quality education close to home. As our population continues to grow at a fast pace, the demand for more schools has never been greater. Ensuring that our children can attend schools within their own community will always be my top priority.

My Priorities:

  • Work closely with Rocky View Schools (RVS) and Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD).
  • Plan proactively so new neighbourhoods have school sites ready before overcrowding occurs.
  • Advocate for safer school zones, with better pick-up/drop-off areas, traffic calming, and pedestrian crossings.
  • Promote community use of school facilities — making gyms, libraries, and fields more available to residents.
  • Encourage strong partnerships between schools, parents, and community groups for enrichment programs.

Recreation & Green Spaces

Recreation is more than just sports — it’s about bringing people together, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating spaces where families and residents can connect. I strongly stand with the building of the new Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre and will continue to support projects that make our community more active, inclusive, and vibrant.

My Priorities:

  • Stand with and advocate for the construction of the new Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre, which will include a swimming pool, indoor full size field, walking track, community rooms, and wellness centre to serve residents of all ages.
  • Support splash park and outdoor spaces, such as Basketball Courts, outdoor sports fields for summer and winter activities.
  • Improve existing parks with benches, gazebos, and picnic tables to make public spaces more welcoming.

Supporting Seniors

Our seniors have built this community, and they deserve to age in place with safety, comfort, and dignity. I am committed to ensuring that older residents have the programs, services, and infrastructure they need to live active and engaged lives in Chestermere. I work closely with senior organizations such as the Whitecappers, Older Adults Coalition of Chestermere (OACC), and Chestermere Senior All Services, and I actively plan and volunteer during Seniors’ Weekto celebrate and support our older residents.

My Priorities:

  • Create more opportunities for seniors to age in place
  • Partner with senior-focused organizations to enhance programming, events, and services
  • Expand affordable and accessible housing options for older residents
  • Build age-friendly infrastructure like benches, shaded areas, and accessible walking paths
  • Ensure public spaces are safe, welcoming, and accessible for seniors
Team, teamwork, and unity concept. Diverse team putting hands together. Group of diverse business

A Diverse & Inclusive Community

Chestermere’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths, and I believe in fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and respected.

My Priorities:

  • Support a multicultural and inclusive Chestermere where all residents feel valued
  • Promote cultural events and celebrations that bring the community together
  • Ensure City programs and services are accessible to all cultures, ages, and abilities
  • Encourage partnerships that build respect, unity, and understanding

Economic Growth & Business Development

A strong local economy means more jobs, more amenities, and less tax burden on residents. I will continue to promote Chestermere as a great place to do business while supporting our existing business community. One major success is that we are bringing the Beacon Data Centre to the City of Chestermere — a proposed $4 billion investment that will create approximately 300 permanent jobs and 1,200 jobs during construction. The presence of this state-of-the-art AI data centre will not only strengthen our tax base but will also attract other technology companies, boosting our local economy and improving overall infrastructure.

My Priorities:

  • Attract new businesses and investment to diversify the tax base
  • Strengthen partnerships with the Chestermere Chamber of Commerce
  • Support local business owners through policies that reduce barriers and encourage growth
  • Respond to community demand for real economic progress and job creation
  • Leverage the Beacon Data Centre’s presence to position Chestermere as a hub for technology and innovation

Community Safety & Transportation

Safety is a core foundation for a thriving city. I am committed to ensuring residents can move around Chestermere safely, whether on foot, by bike, or by car. This includes improving pedestrian safety near schools by building raised crosswalks for safer student crossings, and enhancing traffic safety city-wide by installing cameras at major intersections to monitor and deter dangerous driving.

My Priorities:

  • Build raised crosswalks near schools for safer student crossings
  • Install new traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at high-traffic areas
  • Improve school pick-up and drop-off zones for safety
  • Expand traffic calming measures in neighbourhoods
  • Advance public transportation by building on the transit feasibility study launched in 2025

Infrastructure & Long-Term Planning

Chestermere’s infrastructure must keep pace with its growth.

My Priorities:

  • Begin construction on the twinning of Chestermere Blvd/17th Ave in 2026.
  • Complete the repaving and reopening of Rainbow Road North by the end of 2025.
  • Collaborate with the City of Calgary and the Government of Alberta on major transportation corridors, including 17th Ave, Memorial Drive, Peigan Trail, and Glenmore Trail.
  • Continue the sidewalk improvement program to make neighbourhoods safer and more walkable.

Taxes & Fiscal Responsibility

Keeping taxes low and ensuring responsible spending are key to maintaining affordability for Chestermere residents while still delivering the services our growing community needs. I am committed to maintaining fiscal discipline and making decisions that protect both our taxpayers and our city’s long-term financial stability.

My Priorities:

  • Maintain Chestermere’s mill rate at 3.25%, one of the lowest in all of Alberta
  • Stop relying on the restricted surplus to cover tax increases outside of Council’s control, ensuring we preserve reserve funds for true emergencies and strategic priorities
  • Promote transparent and responsible budgeting that balances affordability with investment in essential services
  • Make spending decisions that reflect community priorities and long-term sustainability

Non-Profits & Community Partnerships

Non-profit organizations are at the heart of a strong and connected community. They provide essential programs, services, and events that make Chestermere a better place to live for everyone. I have always been a strong supporter of our local non-profits, and I work closely with many of them as both a volunteer and partner. My experience in collaborating with non-profit groups has given me a deep understanding of their challenges and the value they bring to our city.

My Priorities:

  • Continue to support and advocate for local non-profits that serve Chestermere residents
  • Support the creation of a Non-Profit Hub to give organizations a shared space to collaborate and serve the community
  • Partner with non-profits on large community events and initiatives
  • Maintain active volunteer involvement with local groups to stay connected to their needs and priorities
